Sandaga Market

Project in development · Immersive human-interest documentary · 26 or 52 minutes · Dakar, Senegal

Craftspeople, spices and Teranga: an immersion in Dakar's most vibrant market.

Synopsis

In the heart of Dakar, Sandaga market is a theatre of daily life where traditions are passed on and every encounter tells a story. The film follows craftspeople, tailors, spice sellers, cooks, jewellers, leatherworkers and sculptors amid colourful fabrics, fragrant spices and the flavours of yassa, thiéboudienne and mafé.

Beyond the commercial bustle, the documentary dismantles some foreign visitors' apprehensions and reveals Teranga, Senegal's legendary hospitality: a place of sharing and exchange where every purchase is also a conversation. A love letter to Senegal, its culture, crafts, cuisine and welcoming people.
